Challenge drives Matt McBride and persistence ensures he reaches his destination. Growing up in Cleveland, the youngest of five children, he was the first in his family to go to college—the U.S. Naval Academy, no less. A football player in high school, he was recruited to play college ball and when the Academy recruiter asked him if he thought he was “cut out for this” he was hooked and there was no way he was turning the opportunity down.

Being dropped into a scenario and giving him the space and leadership ability to figure it out is like catnip to Matt, and his drive, perseverance, problem-solving abilities, and exceptional people skills have enabled him to succeed at everything he has set his mind to. He served as a Naval Officer at commands around the world, including an operating base in Afghanistan; managed the Chinnok and Osprey programs at Boeing; maneuvered a successful return to civilian life; oversaw the development of biomedical innovations at BioEnterprise in Northeast, Ohio;  took on a leadership role in healthcare innovation at the Cleveland Clinic; and, ultimately—as  Managing Partner—helped build Wave Strategy into a leader in guiding early-stage technologies to the commercial market.
